EXO members Baekyun, Xiumin, and Chen are terminating their exclusive contracts with their label, SM Entertainment.
The three EXO members delivered their official statement on June 1 through Lee Jae-hak, their legal representative and lawyer. Korean news media outlet Yonhap News said the members had asked for "a full accounting of their activities and the revenue produced from it since March, but SM Entertainment has yet to provide them."
In a statement provided by Baekhyun, Xiumin, and Chen through their legal team, they addressed their fans with gratitude.
Soompi reported the official statement as follows:
"Words to fans
1. We apologize for causing great concern to fans through this issue, and there is no way to fully express our apology.
2. Although legal action is inevitable due to a difference in our position with SM, we will do our best to find a wise way to resolve this dispute so that we do not cause fans too much concern.
3. As we try to speak up with our small voices regarding the unfairness we couldn't speak of until now, we are actually very frightened and fearful of this moment right now.
4. We hope that you take interest in what we are saying as well as our difficult courage. We once again sincerely thank our fans who have supported us for a long time."
Meanwhile, SM Entertainment has reacted, saying in an exclusive report from Ilgan Sports that entertainment company Big Planet Made is allegedly trying to persuade the three members to sign a with their company.
EXO debuted in 2012 under SM Entertainment with twelve members, Suho, Baekhyun, Chanyeol, D.O. Kai, Sehun, Xiumin, Lay, Baekhyun, Chen, Luhan, and Tao. Members Kris, Luhan, and Tao departed the group individually amid legal battles with SM Entertainment in 2014 and 2015.
Currently, Baekhyun is set to visit Manila this June 11 to perform in the "Overpass: K-pop Music Concert" at the Smart Araneta Coliseum!
