Congratulations, Erika Padilla and Jeffrey Cariaso on baby number two!

Courtside reporter and actress Erika Padilla and her husband PBA legend Jeffrey Cariaso announced that they're expecting their second child.

Erika and Jeffrey took to Instagram to share the miracle they've been keeping for quite some time now.

In a post dated February 12, Erika penned a letter to her firstborn Jet saying he will no longer be the baby of the family.

She wrote, “In a few months, the same birth month as you, you will no longer be the baby.

"We will be welcoming another little one to add to our [growing] family.

"Dad and Mama are very happy and excited that you have been promoted to becoming a 'Kuya.'

"When you get a little older and have the chance to read this, I hope you will be embraced even more tightly by the deep love I always have for you.

“I want you to know before your little sibling arrives, that you have been a wonderful baby to us. Being a new parent wasn't always easy, but with you, it wasn't difficult either.

“[There's] a lot of words to describe you, but the best part is how you have allowed me to become a better person.

"I know better who I am, and what my life is all about, and for that, thank you Anak.

"I will miss the days when I just had you, but I am more than ready to be a mom of two. You prepared me for this.

"I pray that you continue to be a kind and good-natured little boy and that it transcends into a compassionate and wise older brother in the future.

“I love you Jet.”

On her Instagram, Erika had also shared a few progress reports about her pregnancy including a photo of her baby bump and how she practically exercises yoga every day in preparation for its birth.

She added, “This second pregnancy is a little bit more sensitive than my first. I can't exercise for more than 30 minutes but I'm still doing my best to challenge myself every time I move.”

I remember in school, it could not be emphasised enough how remarkable my birth year was--1986. It was a time of solidarity, faith, and hope in Philippine history to fight against dictatorship, tyranny, and injustice. As we face this invisible war, and encouraged to demonstrate the same values to win over the pandemic, at times I find myself worrying about the future. And being pregnant and flushed with hormones, aggravate my emotions. It then dawned on me, that my mom faced the same struggle for years. Not only was she pregnant in 1986, she was pregnant year after year since 1982 (1 miscarriage, 4 children) until I was born. Note that the instability of the country then was greatly triggered by the declaration of martial law in 1972, and was only subdued during the EDSA revolution in 1986. And my father being in the military service, would only be home every couple of months or so. I knew this story from when I was young, and often it would be tweaked to tease our mom about how melodramatic she was about the whole ordeal. But it now paints a different picture of courage and strength from my mother who had to go through those years with the physical, physiological, emotional, plus societal challenges pressed upon her by the situation. I think about this, and I'm comforted and inspired to be the same. Down the road when my children look back in time to remember 2020, I hope they realise, that I, together with their Dad, remained still, courageous, and hopeful. I want them to know that strength of character in trying times has always been our family's core, and will always be who they are.
