Mei-Ling and Ray-An Fuentes

The veteran singer and his wife have been together for 41 years.

Mei-Ling Gozum Fuentes, the wife of OPM singer Ray-An Fuentes, has passed away due to COVID-19.

The sad news was confirmed by Ray-An on Facebook on Monday, December 28 (Manila time).

“My Sweetie has gone home! For good,” the singer sadly wrote.

“We finally just had to release her to the Lord because the other possible reality is brain damage. We didn't want her to suffer anymore. I am sooo heartbroken. This is sooo painful.”

He thanked all the people who are constantly praying for his family's recovery.

“Many many thanks to EVERYONE for your earnest and steadfast intercession. We are truly grateful!”

Ray-An and his family, who are based in Canada, tested positive for the virus on November 29.

The veteran singer revealed their condition to the public in a Facebook post on December 6.

“The goal is to bring down the oxygen levels needed so I can be discharged,” Ray-An shared.

“But the demand got increased and got visited by the ICU [intensive care unit] doctor saying that if the levels don't go down, they will have to transfer me to the ICU. That's one bit of news I don't want to hear.”

Mei-Ling was already in the ICU at the time of Ray-An's post.

“She is still on a ventilator because she is so sick - the sickest one in the ICU right now. They are working on her so hard but can't assure me of positive improvement,” he wrote.

"MY HEART IS CRYING AND BREAKING!!! And my soul feels so weary! LORD, IF EVER SHE NEEDS YOU, SHE NEEDS YOU BADLY. RIGHT NOW!”

Mei-Ling was a former member of the popular 70s singing group the New Minstrels.

The couple marked their 41st marriage anniversary in March this year.
