When a king suddenly falls ill to a mysterious illness, his loving daughter Lucinda promises her hand in marriage to whoever could cure her father of his sickness. When a mysterious hunchback volunteers to heal the king, Princess Lucinda thinks nothing of it. Sure that the hunchback will not be able to cure her father, she accepts his help. But when he does heal the king, the princess goes back on her promise.
A sympathetic beggar feels badly for the hunchback, showing him kindness in a cruel world where appearance is most important. And as the two become closer, magic happens and the real identity of the hunchback is revealed!
