The all-male Filipino group popularly known as The Filharmonic told 'Unang Hirit' this morning how they became part of the hit Hollywood musical 'Pitch Perfect 2' as the ensemble “Manila Envy.”

The all-male Filipino group popularly known as The Filharmonic which is composed of vocalists VJ Rosales, Joe Caigoy, Trace Gaynor, Barry Fortgang, vocal bass Jules Cruz, and beat boxer Niko Del Rey told Unang Hirit this morning how they became part of the hit Hollywood musical Pitch Perfect 2 as the ensemble “Manila Envy.”

Jules said the movie producer had known them as a group which competed in the American TV singing competition, Sing-Off, “They’re looking for a group to represent an Asian country. They told us [they] need a group to represent the Philippines [so] we [tried out], and it was amazing.”

The group made the Kapuso viewers’ morning a lot colorful when they showcased their versatile talent.

Apart from the movie, they have guested in various TV shows in the U.S. such as The Late Late Show with James Corden wherein they backed up the host as well as the movie’s lead star Anna Kendrick in an a cappella showdown. The video uploaded on YouTube currently has 26 million views.

The Fil-Am a cappella singers are in the country to participate in the annual YouTube FanFest on Friday at World Trade Center in Pasay City.

In behalf of the group, Trace told the viewers, “We’re really excited. It’s [going to] be with a ton of different YouTubers. We’re just excited to meet all of our fans.”

The Filharmonic is active in updating their YouTube page to produce a capella versions of today’s hit songs such as the movie’s original soundtrack which is Jessie J’s “Flashlight.”
