In an interview with Sage Bazan on the Rooster Teeth blog, Filipina-American series creator Yssa Badiola shared that Recorded by Arizal will show a lot of Filipino representation through the way the characters interact with each other such as referring to relatives as "Tita" and "Tito," calling an older female sibling/friend "Ate," and more.
Even the name of the show's high-spirited main character is based on the Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal.
"So legitimately, Arizal is derived from a prominent Filipino historical figure's name, Jose Rizal, who was a polymath and advocated for Philippine Independence," said Badiola in her interview on the Rooster Teeth blog.
Filipina-American voice actress Christine Marie Cabanos breathes life to the role of Arizal. She's known for her voice over work in various anime, video games, and animated series.
Rooster Teeth will release a four-part prelude fleshing out the world of Recorded by Arizal, the first of which, is now available for viewing on the Rooster Teeth Animation YouTube channel.
Speaking of Filipino representation in animation, a Filipino-Japanese family starred as the main characters in the anime series Japan Sinks: 2020 which was recently released on Netflix last July 9.
