Recorded by Arizal

Upcoming animated series 'Recorded by Arizal' stars 16-year-old high school student Arizal living in the fictional city of Maktaba who aspires to become a "Record Keeper." Filipino-American series creator Yssa Badiola says that they incorporated a lot of Filipino culture and themes in the show.

American production company Rooster Teeth recently announced its upcoming animated series titled Recorded by Arizal.

The show will follow the story of Arizal, a 16-year-old high school student living in the fictional city of Maktaba. She aspires to become a "Record Keeper" which is one who explores the world and records their findings to add to the "global archive."

In an interview with Sage Bazan on the Rooster Teeth blog, Filipina-American series creator Yssa Badiola shared that Recorded by Arizal will show a lot of Filipino representation through the way the characters interact with each other such as referring to relatives as "Tita" and "Tito," calling an older female sibling/friend "Ate," and more.

Even the name of the show's high-spirited main character is based on the Philippine National Hero Dr. Jose Rizal.

"So legitimately, Arizal is derived from a prominent Filipino historical figure's name, Jose Rizal, who was a polymath and advocated for Philippine Independence," said Badiola in her interview on the Rooster Teeth blog.

Filipina-American voice actress Christine Marie Cabanos breathes life to the role of Arizal. She's known for her voice over work in various anime, video games, and animated series.
