Timothee Chalamet just dropped a delightful surprise on Sunday, October 10, as he shared a first look photo of himself as the iconic character, Willy Wonka.
In the first photo, Timothee can be seen wearing a purple jacket and a brown top hat, which are part of Willy Wonka's signature look.
His caption reads, "The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last … WONKA"
The second photo shows a first look of Willy Wonka's walking cane made of wood and brass, which has a tiny present wrapped in a purple box and red ribbon hidden inside it.
The award-winning actor is set to portray the fictional candy maker in the upcoming Warner Bros. prequel of the 1964 Roald Dahl novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory titled Wonka.
The musical film is set in the early days of the eccentric chocolatier, Willy Wonka, before he opened the world's most famous chocolate factory.
Representatives for Timothee have reportedly confirmed that the Dune actor will be singing and dancing in the prequel movie.
Also part of the prequel's cast are Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, and Keegan-Michael Key.
Willy Wonka was first portrayed by the late Gene Wilder in the 1971 film adaptation Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. His portrayal of the character was so iconic that even decades later, its impact can be seen in the funny memes seen all over the Internet.
Award-winning actor Johnny Depp also took on the role of Willy Wonka in the 2005 film Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Like Gene Wilder, his performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination.
Wonka is reportedly set to open in theaters on March 17, 2023.
