
Hazel Sajo and Jeng Santos got together 11 years ago.
The couple got to know each other by going out to eat. Their dates were usually spent trying out new dining places together.
"Lahat ng mga bagong resto na buffet pinupuntahan namin. As in two hours eating, kami lang dalawa," Jeng shares.
Back then, Hazel was slim and had a 24-inch waistline. Meanwhile, Jeng has always been chubby.
Due to this lifestyle, Hazel's weight went up to 225 lbs. It was not ideal for her height of 5'4", which should only be until 120 lbs.
Jeng, at his heaviest, weighed 280 lbs. Similarly, this is not ideal for his height of 5'8", which should only be until 170 lbs.
Frustrated by her family's comments about her weight, Hazel started circuit training nine months ago.
She also switched to a low carb diet--lessening her intake of rice and choosing to eat small portions of vegetables and steamed chicken.
She got her weight down to 133 lbs.
Inspired by Hazel, Jeng also began a fitness journey of his own.
"Ako ngayon, unti-unti na. Kasi dati ayaw ko eh. Wala akong pakialam sa ganyan eh. Pero ngayon, because of her, na-influence na niya ko kung pano mag-trim down," he says.
From 280 lbs, Jeng managed to get his weight down to 240 lbs.
Hazel hopes they can continue their path to a healthy lifestyle together.
"Gusto ko din actually na makasama ko siyang mag-gym. Sabay kami sa journey, not only 'yung sinu-support niya ko. Gusto ko sabay kami na magpa-healthy pa," says Hazel.
