Flying with Style At last, she’s no longer that poor, unfortunate heroine who always gets beaten up by the kontrabida. And she’s not playing a ditzy, spoiled, rich girl, either. This time around, Jennylyn Mercado gets to be the tough protagonist, ready to kill villains and protect her twin sister. And she does all of this while wearing a sweet, Japanese animation-inspired schoolgirl costume! It is Jennylyn herself who attests that their costumes are really quite sexy. At first, she and co-star Nadine Samonte wore cycling shorts underneath their micro-mini skirts, but after some costume alterations, the team decided that they should only wear panties instead! jen“Wearing those costumes is a challenge for us kasi di ba, (we have to do our) stunts wearing mini skirts with only panties inside? Parang ang hirap lalo na kapag naka-harness kami -- feeling namin, lahat ng tao nakatingin sa amin!” Jen shares. Our team caught up with them in Antipolo during their second taping day, and we were fortunate enough to take pictures of Jen and Nadine during a flying sequence. (Check out our gallery to see them in their harnesses!) It’s a good thing that these two actresses are blessed with mile-long legs and flawless skin, so they totally did justice to their skimpy skirts! Super Twins is directed by Dominic Zapata, the same man behind the success of Mars Ravelo’s Captain Barbell (2006-2007). Jen has worked with Direk Dom before on Nuts Entertainment and StarStruck 3’s “Kiss Flicks.” “Nung kami ni Marky (ang magkasama sa “Kiss Flicks”), siya ‘yung ginawang director,” says Jen. The production team of I Luv NY, Jen’s last primetime project, is also involved in Super Twins, which is why she describes the entire set as “super fun - all the staff and directors are cool and parang family kami dito!” jen Since Jen and Nadine’s characters perform crime-busting, kick-ass moves, she underwent training with John Escudero, who was also their mentor for the Metro Manila Film Fest entry Super Noypi (2006), directed by Quark Henares. “Nag- training kami siguro for like one month, in martial arts like Capoeira,” shares Jen, “pero I think they changed it to Jiujitsu if I’m not mistaken, tapos stick works, or Arnis.” jen On Super Twins, Jen plays “Super S,” the grown-up (and superpowered) version of Sha-Sha. Child actress Nicole Dulalia portrays the little Sha-Sha, who, even in her youth, is the feisty fraternal twin, the one who knows how to defend herself and protect her sister Tin-Tin (played by Ella Cruz who becomes "Super T" in turn portrayed by Nadine). When little Sha-Sha kisses her mysterious metallic stone ring, she becomes Super S and acquires the power of strength, flight, and speed. She can also use her ring to attack her foes. “Kapag hinalikan (ng kambal) ‘yung singsing nagiging malaki sila, tapos ayun, magiging super hero na kami,” Jen says. Catch Jen as the high-flying, fast and powerful Super S in Super Twins, weeknights during GMA Telebabad. -- Text by Jillian Q. Gatcheco. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio.
