At her age, she’s still sexy, beautiful, and a certified hottie. So how does Jean Garcia do it?
She may be playing Dyesebel’s mom but Jean Garcia could pass for Dyesebel herself. At her age, she’s still sexy, beautiful, and a certified hottie. So how does she do it? Text by KC M. Abalos. Photos by Mitch S. Mauricio. Born on August 22, 1969, Jean Garcia still has that x-factor that makes heads turn. Want us to describe her in one word? Vavavoom! And as you can see, she gave us her exact birthday. This is one lady who’s not afraid to say her real age. stars“No, it doesn’t matter!” she says with a rich laugh. “Nako, masarap kaya! I’m aging gracefully. So okay lang, I’m proud of my age. It’s all in the mind. ‘Di ba?” Age may be all in the mind but her cool attitude certainly shows in how she looks. Even after two children, one of whom happens to be a young lady now, Jean has still got “it”. Well, maybe it helps that no matter what and how much she eats, she doesn’t seem to gain any weight. “Matakaw ako, eh,” she says sheepishly. “Kahit anong kain hindi talaga [ako tumataba], eh. Siguro mabilis pa rin iyong metabolism ko even [if] you know, I’m 38.” Staying Slim Jean is clearly blessed with ‘slim genes,’ as she says that even her mom is still within her ideal weight. But more than being genetically lucky, Jean is also into sports, which helps keep her trim and healthy. By the way, did you know that in high school, Jean used to be a varsity basketball player for St. Theresa’s? She was the point guard. Jean continues, “I [also] play volleyball! I play badminton. I tried golf pero medyo expensive siya so medyo tinigil ko siya ‘tsaka addictive, eh.” starsShe knows that she may not look the athletic type—she’s not at all muscled and bulky—but Jean believes that her active lifestyle helps a lot in looking and feeling young. It doesn’t hurt either that she cooks for herself and her family as much as she can, ensuring that they have a healthy diet. But what is her specialty? “Pasta. Kasi favorite nila Jennica,” she says. “Mga carbonara, spaghetti, pasta na may tuyo.” She then proceeds to share the recipe. But Jean adds that she also likes to cook “lutong bahay” dishes, such as sinigang, kaldereta, and other Filipino food. In the end, Jean reveals that maybe, the real secret to staying young is living a simple life. And as much as possible, she keeps her real life private. This gives her the peace of mind that she knows is so essential to beauty, both inside and out. “‘Di ako ma-issue na tao. Once na wala na camera, I am just this ordinary person [na] very simple ang buhay. Family lang, homebody, nagbabasa,” she says with a contented smile. Her love for being active and efforts to live simply have rewarded her with youthful beauty. So has Jean Garcia stumbled on the fountain of youth? Probably. Just take a good look at the lady and you’ll know the answer. Talk about Jean in the iGMA forums! May kuwento pa sa iyo si JEAN. Text JEAN [your message] and send to 4627 for all telcos.
