No ham, no problem.

With the threat of African swine fever (ASF), more Filipinos are looking for alternatives to the Noche Buena favorite, Christmas ham.

Taking inspiration from Christmas feasts all over the work, here are four alternatives to Christmas ham.

1. Roast turkey

Turkey is not just for Thanksgiving! It is also a popular Christmas food in countries like the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Here's a sumptuous recipe for truffle butter roast turkey from celebrity chef Ina Garten.

2. Roast goose

Eating goose during Christmas might not be as popular as before, but it remains one of the most enduring Christmas traditions in Germany.

The affable and friendly Chef John of Food Wishes shared his recipe for roast smoked goose.

3. Roast duck

Like goose, duck is also a popular Christmas food in European countries like Germany and Denmark.

Check out celebrity chef Jaime Oliver's recipe for Assam crispy duck.

4. Fish and other seafood

In Sicily and other parts of Southern Italy, Roman Catholics would avoid eating meat until Christmas Day in observance of abstinence.

Families would instead eat seven kinds of fish or other seafood for their Christmas Eve meal which is called La Vigilia, or Feast of the Seven Fishes.

This Christmas, remember to eat in moderation to be able to enjoy the season in the company of loved ones.
