FPJ Sa GMA marks its debut with one of the most iconic and renowned films of The King of Philippine Movies, Fernando Poe Jr.
The special programming will feature Da King's digitally restored 1980 movie, Ang Panday, in its launching weekend this Sunday, March 2.
Based on the fictional "komiks" character of the same name created by the late esteemed comic strip creator and writer-director Carlo J. Caparas and illustrated by Steve Gan, the classic Pinoy film follows Flavio (FPJ), a blacksmith. When a meteor fell from the sky one night, he forged the metal from the meteor into a dagger. When he raises the dagger to the sky, it magically grows into a sword. He uses this magical sword to fight sinister forces, especially the evil Lizardo (Max Alvarado) and other supernatural beings.
Ang Panday was also starred by late action star Max Alvarado, who portrayed FPJ's villain. Liz Alindogan, on the other hand, played Da King's leading lady in the movie.
Due to its success, the action-fantasy film was followed by three sequels, which also featured FPJ as Flavio. It has also been adapted into several films and TV series.
