Frankie Pangilinan Macoy Dubs

Social media influencers Frankie "Kakie" Pangilinan and Macoy Averilla or more popularly known as "Macoy Dubs," will speak at EU's children's summit on October 17

Social media influencers Frankie Pangilinan and Macoy Averilla are two of the loudest voices on the internet today. They don't just use social media to share selfies and funny videos but also use these online platforms to spread awareness among their young followers.

Because of their influence, the two will speak at “My Space, My Rights,” a virtual Children's Rights Summit on October 17. This is organized by the European Union (EU) Delegation to the Philippines in celebration of the 31st anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The summit aims to provide a platform for children and youth to assess their situation especially during this pandemic with a focus on the four basic clusters of the rights of children: survival, protection, participation, and development.

Frankie or Kakie is the 19-year-old daughter of Megastar Sharon Cuneta and senator Kiko Pangilinan. She is known for sparking the #HijaAko anti-rape culture movement on Twitter. She will officially open the event to empower participants aged 14 to 18 years old to stay informed and uphold their rights as important members of their communities.

On the other hand, Macoy Averilla or more popularly known as Macoy Dubs will give the closing keynote address. The content creator and online personality is commonly known to viewers for his humorous and socially aware content. Currently, Macoy Dubs is also a part-time college instructor at Colegio de San Juan de Letran-Manila, his alma mater.

The summit is seen as especially relevant today because of the educational adjustments brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic that have caused many students to shift to digital platforms to continue their studies.

The summit also had a training session last week and was participated by 300 students, aged 15 to 18 years old, from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindano. Maria Jela Moran, founder of Know Your Rights Philippines, will give a synthesis and response to the output of the summit participants.

MJ (as she is fondly called) is a volunteer counselor of the Free Legal Aid Programme of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, Camarines Sur Chapter. She graduated Magna Cum Laude and has a Juris Doctorate degree.

The rights-based event is being co-presented by the Ateneo Human Rights Center and it is in partnership with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Child Rights Center.

The virtual event goes live on October 17, 8:30 A.M. at EU Delegation to the Philippines' Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/EUDelegationToThePhilippines.
