French actor Gaspard Ulliel, who is set to appear in the upcoming Disney+ series Moon Knight, has died at the age of 37 from injuries suffered during a skiing accident. The actor had collided with a fellow skier and suffered serious brain injury.
Gaspard began acting at the age of 13, appearing in French television film Une Femme En Blanc before eventually moving on to films like Summer Things and Strayed, both of which earned him nominations for the Award for Most Promising Actor at the Cesar Awards.
In 2004, he starred in A Very Long Engagement, Jeanne-Pierre Jenuet's followup to the Academy Award-winning Amelie and was given the Cesar Award for Most Promising Actor for his role as Manech Langonnet.
He also took part in Paris je t'aime, an anthology film featuring different districts of Paris. Gaspard was featured in the "Le Marais" segment directed by Gus Van Sant.
In 2007, he played the young Hannibal Lecter in the film Hannibal Rising. This was his first English-language role.
In 2014, he portrayed French designer Yves Saint Laurent in the film Saint Laurent, a role that won him the Lumieres Award for Best Actor.
Gaspard was also a sought-after fashion model, having fronted campaigns for Longchamp and Chanel.
Peter Webber, who directed Gaspard in Hannibal Rising, said on Twitter that he had fond memories of working with the actor.
Gaspard's death is the second celebrity death this week, with Andre Leon Talley dying yesterday after battling an undisclosed illness in a New York hospital.
Shocked and saddened to hear about the death of Gaspard Ulliel at such a young age in a skiing accident. I have such fond memories of working with him all those years ago on Hannibal Rising. Rest in peace, dear friend. pic.twitter.com/U1gmxMvHJE
