Gabbi Garcia: "May stage ako na parang, 'Hindi ba ako maganda for showbiz?'"

Kapuso actress Gabbi Garcia is considered as one of the beautiful faces of show business today. However, she candidly revealed that there was a point in her life that she was insecure about her looks.

In the second part of her and boyfriend Khalil Ramos's guest appearance on Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, Gabbi shared she wasn't comfortable at herself until her high school days when she managed to have self-esteem.

"I really had that ugly duckling phase pero parang siguro kasi I was just really carefree when I was a kid. Malakas 'yung self-esteem ko when I was a kid," she shared.

"So, parang I was like really comfortable with myself, but it wasn't easy. When I was in grade school, I wasn't that comfortable. May stage ako na parang, 'Bakit ganun? Lahat ng kasabayan ko mag-VTR, lahat sila artista na. Hindi ba ako maganda for showbiz?'

"May ganu'ng phase ako, promise. When I was in grade school, ang chinita ko na ang morena ko na parang laging akong pale. Tapos hindi ako payat, hindi rin ako mataba parang somewhere in the middle na hindi ko maintindihan.

"'Yung pinaka-insecure akong stage was in grade school."

As she grew older, Gabbi has learned to love herself and be proud of being a morena.

"When I was starting, uso pa rin talaga 'yung notion ng tao na kailangan mestisa ka para maganda ka. So, it's nice to be able to represent all the other Filipina girls who look like me na more, 'di ba?'

"I would always travel for different brands tapos may mga representative 'yan, kunwari pag Asia or minsan sa US din, per country may representative, and it's nice to represent the Filipina beauty 'di ba?'"

But Gabbi cleared that she has nothing against anybody who wanted to change the color of their skin as long as they were happy about it.

"I mean nothing against girls who would like to be whiter. I mean, 'di ba, it's your body. You do you, kung saan ka masaya.

"But I also like to inspire all the other girls na natatakot na feeling nila ang society ang nagdi-dictate kung ano maganda."
