Gabbi Garcia has a message to those questioning community pantries.

Inspired by Filipino's Bayanihan, Kapuso Global Endorser Gabbi Garcia has put up her own community pantry o help Filipino families who are having a difficult time progressing in these trying times.

On Tuesday, April 20, Gabbi, with the help of her parents, mounted her own community pantry in their village in Parañaque, which was filled with different commodities including vegetables, canned goods, fresh produce, and other basic necessities.

“Sinabi ko sa parents ko na nakaka-inspire naman 'to. Noong una sabi ko sige let's start small. Meron kasi kaming regular na nagtitinda ng gulay dito sa village namin pati ng sorbetes.

“Sabi ko kunin ko na lang muna bilhin ko na lang muna 'yung lahat ng tinda for the day. Then the next day, ginawa na namin, naglatag na kami ng tent,” she said.

The actress also expressed her appreciation to those who have shown their support by sending donations.

“Nakakatuwa kasi ang daming donations. Overflowing 'yung donations na dumadating,” she added.

Her humanitarian initiative has benefited security guards, construction workers, delivery riders, and many more.

As community pantries are now replicated by many, there are still some who criticize their organizers and objectives.

Gabby, on Thursday, April 22, experienced the same thing after a netizen criticized her pantry.

“If you wanna help then okay thank you, but if you don't wanna help tapos may masasabi ka pa, wag ka na lang kumbaga…let's not spread negativity na lang. Let's help each other move through this pandemic,” the actress said.

The community pantry movement may not be a permanent solution, but the lesson that we can learn from this will surely help more people thrive as it becomes more evident how sharing plays a crucial role towards a more connected and tight community.
