As a theater newbie, Garrett Bolden felt "scared" during his first rehearsals with the seasoned 'Come From Away' cast but soon found strength in the experience.
Tony Award-winning musical Come From Away is making its Philippine debut with an all-Filipino cast and creative team. Presented by GMG Productions and Stages, the show runs from June 6 to 29, 2025, at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater in Circuit Makati.
This production marks GMG Productions' first Filipino-led show, featuring a stellar cast including Cathy Azanza-Dy, Caisa Borromeo, Mikkie Bradshaw-Volante, Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, Gian Magdangal, Carla Guevara Laforteza, Garrett Bolden, among others.
The ensemble of 15 actors portrays approximately 84 characters, showcasing their versatility through various roles and accents.
All-Out Sundays star Garrett Bolden shared his thoughts on being included in the cast, and portraying several roles. "As one of the new ones in theater, I wanted to learn a lot from them," he said during the Come From Away press conference at the Samsung Performing Arts Theater on June 4.
"The first day we had rehearsals, I was really scared of them, honestly," he said.
"But everyday, I get excited because everyone brings something to the table, to the group, everyone shares their experience on how to do scenes, and as a newbie, I'm learning a lot from them and I'm really thankful to each and everyone," Garrett concluded.
Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 airline passengers who were stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, following the 9/11 attacks. The townspeople's extraordinary hospitality during this crisis forms the heart of the musical, celebrating themes of kindness, resilience, and community .
Directed by Michael Williams, with musical direction by Rony Fortich, the creative team also includes Delphine Buencamino (choreography), Harry Tabner (lighting design), Luke Swaffield (sound design), Kayla Teodoro (production design), Myrene Santos (hair and makeup), Hershee Tatiado (costume design), and Joel Goldes, the original Broadway dialect coach .
The Manila production of Come From Away offers a unique opportunity to experience this globally acclaimed musical through the lens of Filipino artistry. With its powerful storytelling and heartfelt performances, it's a theatrical event that promises to resonate deeply with audiences.
Tickets are available through TicketWorld, with prices ranging from PhP952 to PhP5,819, depending on the seat category. Early access was provided to UnionBank credit cardholders from February 18 to 21, 2025, before general sales opened on February 22.
