Gary Estrada admitted that he became more appreciative of his role as a dad when he had his three daughters with wife Bernadette Allyson named Icee, Gabbi, and Garri.
“It's like the best thing that happened in my life,” the actor told GMANetwork.com when asked about being a girl dad.
“Kasi, sila yung una kong naalagaan talaga. I have a son before, but hindi ko naman talagang… naghihiraman lang kami, time-sharing yun, e. This time around, when I got married and became a girl dad, I got to bring them to school.”
Gary was referring to his son with former actress Cheska Diaz, Kiko Estrada, who is also an actor.
The former action star then recalled his daddy duties to his little girls, “Yung mga hirap na mga dinanas ko, kahit na may yaya kami, kami ang nag-aalaga talaga. Makikita mo akong nagpapalit ng diapers talaga. Iniisip ko nga, 'Action star ako, bakit ito ang ginagawa ko?'
“Ngayon, it's fun. It grew on me. Kumbaga, na-a-appreciate ko yung pagiging daddy, pagiging girl dad. Yun nga, minsan nakakapagsuot na ako ng pink, e. Dati iwas ako diyan kasi, siyempre, action star. Pero ngayon, I enjoy it. I love them to the moon and back."
Gary did not deny that there were times when he wished he has another son, “Minsan, madalas kong isipin 'yan.”
But now, he is satisfied being a girl dad to his daughters, who are all now grown up.
He related, “Ang ginagawa ko sa kanila, kahit girls sila, we do sports together. We do things together. Minsan kapag nasa farm, we do chores together. May mga ganun kaming moments, especially sports, doon ko sila nakakasama nang madalas. All of them play softball, they play tennis. Minsan kasama ko sila.”
Meanwhile, Gary's wife, Bernadette, attests to Gary being a loving father to their children.
In the same interview, the actress told her husband, “Don't worry to much about the girls. Don't worry too much about us. I can attest naman how devoted a father he is. Ibang-iba sa pagkakakilala n'yo noon na Gary Estrada, totally different.”
