General Motors (GM), the largest American automobile manufacturer known for its core automobile brands such as Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac, is one of the multinational companies stepping up to do their part in responding to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic.
GM announced on March 21 that they will be collaborating with Ventec Life Systems in producing much-needed respiratory care products, including ventilators.
GM will be utilizing its logistics, purchasing, and manufacturing expertise to assist Ventec in producing urgently needed health-care equipment.
“We are working closely with Ventec to rapidly scale up production of their critically important respiratory products to support our country's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Mary Barra, GM Chairman and CEO.
“We will continue to explore ways to help in this time of crisis.”
This move by General Motors has also been given a thumbs up by U.S. President Donald Trump. He expressed his approval in a tweet.
Moreover, the collaboration between GM and Ventec came at a perfect time, as President Trump had recently signed the Defense Production Act, which authorizes the administration to enlist the American industry to help produce medical supplies that are desperately needed during a crisis.
