Georgina Wilson wants her children to realize the importance of constant learning: “I hope that my children get from me, that learning is exciting.”

“It's in the genes.”

This is what people often say when they see kids who are very talented, attributing their skills to the genes they inherited from their parents.

But aside from the DNA, there are other factors that make a child gifted. These include stimulating a child's brain and giving them proper nutrition.

In an event called “Gifted Together,” which was organized by PROMIL recently, experts discussed the development of a child's brain.

Dr. Ryan Carvalho, chief medical officer and global head of the Nutrition Product Development Center, said that brain development depends highly on two factors: time and nutrition.

“With how our world has changed due to the pandemic, it's important to pay closer attention to our kid's diet. Kids are more susceptible to hindrances in their brain development. So, parents should implement changes and improvements to their lifestyles and diets to prevent these roadblocks from affecting their kids in their growth.”

Celebrity mom Georgina Wilson, who was a guest at the event, said it's interesting to learn how important nurturing a child's brain is in raising a gifted kid.

Speaking of nutrition and stimulation, she mentioned that these are some of the things that she and her fellow It Girls talk about now that they're already moms.

“They do ask a lot about nutrition, how did you do this and that,” Georgina told GMANetwork.com and other entertainment media in a separate interview after the event.

She continued, “I mean, we share coaches, [and] swimming classes. I do think… honestly, not to be crazy but if there's one thing to teach your kids is to learn how to swim, so they're safe in the water so that's one thing I was quite strict about, my kids have to be good swimmers 'cause it can be quite dangerous. So, we talk about those things, what's the best car seat. It's a whole new world so I think doing it with your friends is really exciting.”

As early as now, Georgina also gives independence to her three children namely Archie, 6; Alfie, 3; and Charlotte, 1.

She said, “I always value independence for them. Actually, a lot of them as they fly alone. Like Archie, he flies by himself. He's very sanay to do things. I always challenge him, 'Can you do this?'

“So, in that way, I wouldn't say I'm hands-on because I want them to figure it out by themselves. But I try to put them in scenarios or situations that will help them grow.”

Georgina also said, “I'm not worried about making mistakes. But what I'm teaching my kids is how to take it graciously. I'm not actually worried about them making mistakes, the more the better… when no one is watching also [ha-ha]. But it's what you do after. My one child is extremely frustrated if it doesn't go his way, talagang sore loser siya as of the moment, but we're working on it.”

On raising three kids

Raising three kids is not always the same, according to Georgina. And as a mom, she makes a conscious effort not to make any comparisons between them.

“One thing that I really recommend to moms is not to compare their kids,” she said.

“I think that's the number one thing, don't compare them with other children, don't compare them with their siblings. They're all unique individuals.

“So, I wasn't fixated on like this milestone or whatever. I actually don't know the milestones. Basta my kids are great, they're gonna do great and they're amazing, and I believe in them.

“I'm just trying to give them the most stimulation that I can. Even if I bring them with me to work, you know, they get to see so much. Like for example, if I bring them to the supermarket, I say, 'Let's go on [an] adventure together,' so nagiging adventure siya. You know, we have fun doing it.

“I think that's really it, finding things in life to enjoy and do with your children, and they learn from everything.”

The celebrity mom also highlighted how parents should be proactive in letting their kids learn.

Georgine then gave an example, “You know, we had dinner parties at home and my kids are part of it. I think it's great that they're able to talk to 40-year-olds [and] 30-year-olds like they have a conversation. I think they learn something new from everyone they meet. You know, I think it's really cool to expose them. Expose them to everything, bahala na if they like or don't.”

The constant learning is something Georgina inherited from her parents that she wanted to pass on to her children.

“One thing I had from my dad which I thought was amazing is the love of learning. Ever since we're young until the very last day, he was all about how fun it is to learn.

“And learning with your children is really a special gift and activity to do. So, I hope that my children get from me, that learning is exciting.

“It's not just when you're in school, it's life, it's everything and it's continuous. You're continuously learning, you're never done,” she concluded.
