If you don't recognize the name Teresita Ssen “Winwyn” Marquez, well then maybe it's time for you to brush up on your knowledge on Filipino celebrities because this 27-year-old has always been someone to watch for.
Aside from making her name in the pageant world after becoming the first Pinay to win Reina Hispanoamericana in 2017, she stepped outside her famous parents' shadow proving that she's more than meets the eye.
Aside from the famous surname, she's got the experience, the personality, and the style to prove she's worthy to be part of the beauty and style council of GNTV's newest lifestyle show Glow Up.
But ahead of its premiere, we spoke intimately with Winwyn to get an idea of what she likes in terms of fashion and beauty and learning the art of dedma.
What is a stylish woman to you?
A stylish woman to me is someone who is comfortable with her own skin and is not afraid to just wear normal clothes. 'Yung kahit ulitin nila 'yung clothes nila. I mean that's the purpose of our clothes 'di ba? For me when I see someone who wears jeans, sneakers, and a white shirt, stylish na 'yun.
How would you describe your style?
My style is very laidback. I think my style is chill. Jeans, spaghetti strap, rubber shoes, flats, and neutral colors lang talaga ako.
What's the one fashion and beauty item you cannot live without?
My lipstick. I'm obsessed with lipsticks. Ang nakakatawa dun is I love nude lipsticks na akala ko iba-iba 'yung kulay pero pare-pareho lang 'yung kulay nila.
And one fashion item? Siguro shorts na denim.
If you could get a bespoke item from any designer in the world, who would it be and why?
Any designer? Balmain. He's very edgy and very military-like. Hindi siya pambabae lang, hindi siya panlalaki lang. So for me it's very androgynous and I like that.
Who is your style and beauty icons?
Shay Mitchell. I love her so much! I really, really like her and 'yung style niya very laidback din kung mag-suot.
Who are the fashionistas in social media that inspire you every day?
Her din. Ngayon ha, siya talaga 'yung chine-check ko. Marami rin naman pero parang favorite ko talaga siya.
What's the best beauty and fashion advice you've ever received?
Siguro from my mom na pag lumalabas dapat laging nakangiti. For me ha, every time I go out or I have an event, she doesn't care what I look like. Kebs siya kung ano 'yung sinusuot ko basta hindi nawawala 'yung smile. Kasi even if the clothes don't suit you if you just smile people will automatically smile at you also.
No fuss, just be confident and smile.
She's very supportive and she says go try different outfits. Make sure you're comfortable pero never mawawala 'yung ngiti mo kahit nahihirapan ka, kahit 'di mo bet 'yung suot mo, just smile.
Being always on the go, do you have a strategy when it comes to packing?
I'm a self-confessed overpacker. It's better na may sobra kaysa kulang. Lalo na if you're overseas tapos kulang ka sa gamit, ang hirap.
I don't shop when I'm abroad. Well I would only shop, siguro, a pair of shoes that are limited. I don't really shop but I eat, I go sight seeing, I visit museums, I go to theme parks, but I don't shop.
Being a personality, do you approach social media differently?
I think I'm more real when it comes to social media.
I think some people iniisip nila na dapat maganda 'yung feed pero it's a must na, nowadays.
Pero for me I just post whatever I feel like posting. Ayokong nagsisinungaling din. So whatever you see on my post, it's me. And it's a part of me sharing din sa ibang tao.
How do you cope with negativity on social media and what is your advice for anyone who's experiencing that?
One is try to filter. Sa mga taong 'di alam na sa Instagram and sa Twitter, you can filter words so hindi mo nakikita kung may nagko-comment sa iyo na hindi maganda.
'Di mo naman maiiwasan 'yun. Even normal people may maririnig silang ganun from other people. So for me try to filter your Instagram or your Twitter or whatever other accounts you have.
And then at the same time, try not to read your comments also. Kung may nakalusot, just dedma. It's hard to do. Pero, you have to learn the art of dedma.
