The apparel line in honor of Gianna Bryant, the late daughter of NBA legend Kobe Bryant, flew out of shelves less than a day after it was officially launched.
The tie-dyed sweatshirts and sweatpants were released last Saturday, May 1, on what would have been Gianna's 15th birthday.
Gianna passed away on January 26, 2020, when the helicopter that she was riding, along with her father, Kobe, six family friends, and the pilot, crashed onto the side of a mountain in Calabasas, Los Angeles.
The “Mambacita” moniker was bestowed on Gianna in reference to the “Black Mamba” nickname given to her dad during his playing years with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Kobe's widow, Vanessa Bryant, unveiled the Mambacita apparel to honor the life of Gianna in time for her 15th birthday.
Vanessa and her three daughters donned the products to promote them on social media.
Several active NBA players including Stephen Curry and Lebron James also wore the sweatshirts and sweat pants during the weekend to show their support.
Sale proceeds will all go to the Mamba and Mambacita Sports Foundation, a non-profit charity founded to honor the memory of Kobe and Gianna Bryant.
It was reported recently that the partnership between giant sporting apparel brand Nike and Kobe Bryant, through the late basketball star's estate, has come to an end after both parties failed to reach an agreement.
Talks are buzzing that Kobe's estate led by Vanessa would pursue in launching its own brand to preserve the late basketball star's legacy.
The launching of the Mambacita brand over the weekend indicates that Vanessa is indeed taking control of her late husband's brand and image.
The untimely passing of Kobe devastated people from all walks of life. Tributes immediately poured in as soon as news of his death was confirmed. Take a look back at the different homages given to Kobe in various parts of the globe:
