Ginger or luya is popular in the Philippines in the form of tea or salabat, as a cooking ingredient, or for medicinal purposes. Well, little did we know that it's also good for spa!
In the recent episode of Pinoy MD, ginger was introduced as spa's new secret ingredient.
To learn more about it, they brought their celebrity guest Diana Zubiri to try and explore the benefits of ginger as an ingredient for spa treatment.
In the first spa she visited, the session started by soaking her feet in a pail of water with ginger for 10 minutes. The therapist explained that their Ginger Foot Soak can help ease rheumatism and arthritis.
According to WebMD, “Other uses [of ginger] include pain relief from rheumatoid arthritis (RA), osteoarthritis, menstrual pain, and other conditions. However, there is not strong evidence to support the use of ginger for these conditions.”
Meanwhile, after the head and arms massage, the therapist proceeded with a Foot Reflexology and a Shiatsu back massage.
“Parang perfect ito sa mga nagwo-work out, kasi talagang tinatamaan niya yung mga muscles ko,” the Kapuso actress said.
The Honey Ginger Scrub is the specialty of the second spa Diana visited.
As stated by the therapist, the scrub can exfoliate the skin and even reduce cellulite signs.
After the full body massage, Diana was covered from below the head for 30 minutes to detoxify. The treatment is called the Honey Ginger Body Wrap.
Diana attested that she felt relaxed and her skin got smoother after the treatment.
