Dynamic global girl group Quadlips could not help turning emotional before the media during the launch of the music video of their highly anticipated seventh single “IDGA (I Don't Give A)” at Seda Vertis North in Quezon City.
In case you didn't know, the four-member sing-and-dance group, formed through the AKB48 Group Global Project and managed by America's A-Nexus Inc., is composed of Feni (JKT48 - Jakarta), Hina (SKE48 - Nagoya), Cole (MNL48 - Manila), and Fame (BNK48 - Bangkok),
"I was crying my heart out," said Cole (Ashley Nicole Somera) from the Philippines during their group interview with GMANetwork.com.
"We remember the moment," said Hina (Aoumi Hinano) in agreement, nodding her head.
Feni (Feni Fitriyanti) from Indonesia chimed in, "Like our journey from the start until now. We start another journey now in the Philippines, so we have to adjust to how the industry works." Turning to her co-members, she asked, "But we're ready, right?"
Nunthapak Kittirattanaviwat, or Fame from Thailand, excitedly answered, "Yes! We are ready!"
For Cole, it was a full circle moment for them, especially since they've been around since October 2023. Their international debut happened in March 2024, when they introduced their English hit "Catch Me Kiss Me" in Tokyo. The multi-cultural group has also mounted showcases in Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand.
"It came to me na, 'Aww, nalampasan namin 'yon at eto na 'yung bunga ng paghihirap namin. And then I saw this music video ['IDGA'], in which we had too hectic of a schedule, ayon, it came back. I'm really proud of the girls. I'm really proud of our improvements. And I know there's so much more to come."
Quadlips is composed of (from left) Feni (JKT48 - Jakarta), Hina (SKE48 - Nagoya), Cole (MNL48 - Manila), and Fame (BNK48 - Bangkok).
Originally meant as a "breakup" anthem, Quadlips' new song 'IDGA' (available on YouTube and other platforms) is all about empowerment and embracing self-worth. It's a message that the members would personally want their listeners to learn and live by.
Feni, in particular, would like their fans to realize the beauty of being strong and independent, just like her and her co-members, who have all been living away from home and away from the familiar in pursuit of their dreams.
"Every one of us, we try not to let each other feel homesick. I want everyone to see that we have each other. I hope everyone can support each other."
Hina could not agree more. She has experienced how supportive her co-members have been since Day 1. She's also grateful that her real family has been very supportive of her dreams as well. "Every time I come home from work, let's say midnight, they still come for me, drive to me. If I feel lonely, they would call me and lift me up, motivate me."
Fame sees their strong female bond as special, as it has made her a better person. "This relationship makes me know myself better. Every experience, every relationship [I develop], makes me better than I was before."
For Cole, if there's a love lesson that she has learned as she navigates the world of performing and recording, it's valuing the ones who choose to stay. "Not everyone will stay, whether it's your friends or family members, loved ones, not everyone would be with you in our journey. So make the most of every moment, cherish every single moment with them because you don't know when they will be gone, or take a different path."
What can Filipino fans expect from Quadlips? Music that connects and heals.
"I hope the Filipino fans can feel our positive energy," replied Feni. "And I want Filipino fans to love our music. When fans tell us that our music makes them want to enjoy life, or 'You saved my life because of your music,' that really means a lot to us."
Cole added, "We're very relatable. Our songs are your stories as well. If you need some cheering up, you can listen to 'Checklist.' If you're in love, you can listen to 'Overdrive.' If you're going through a breakup, you can listen to 'IDGA'."
