It was a festive celebration of sustainability and eco-conscious living as GMA Network marked another significant milestone in its environmental advocacy.
On June 5, the network transformed its gazebo and ground hallway into a vibrant green hub for the Kapuso ng Kalikasan Fair, celebrating both World Environment Day and the 15th anniversary of the Kapuso ng Kalikasan initiative.
Organized by GMA's Corporate Affairs team, the fair was the first of its kind--bringing together GMA employees, talents, and partners to reinforce the network's long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship. Over the years, this advocacy has included activities such as coastal cleanups and tree planting.
"Being the 75th year of GMA and also the 15th anniversary of Kapuso ng Kalikasan, we thought of putting up a fair to coincide with World Environment Day kasi gusto natin i-advocate natin as a network ang sustainability, habits natin in going green," said Angela Javier Cruz, Vice President and Head of GMA Corporate Affairs and Communications, who also served as the project lead.
"So kailangan, sinu-support natin 'yung mga daily activities natin by using products na that are sustainable, buying organic products, practicing proper segregation and waste management in our daily living. So that's what we're trying to advocate sa ating employees."
Kapuso ng Kalikasan proudly proved the network's advocacy with being an inspiration and awareness to its employees and talents.
"GMA is the first and only media organization in the Philippines to sign up with the U.N. Global Compact Network Philippines (UNGCNP). Sinu-support natin ang lahat ng mga sustainable activities na kaya nating gawin as a network," Angela continued.
Exhibitors at the fair included Flor's Garden (operated by Flor Gozon Tarriela, former PNB Chair and Finance Undersecretary) and Carolina Bamboo Garden (run by Carolina Gozon Jimenez). Other eco-friendly advocates and brands also participated, including Ritual PH, Bambuhay, Ecoshift, Side B Upcycling, Project Payatas, and SaladStop!
Looking ahead, Kapuso ng Kalikasan has even bigger goals.
"If we're talking about the environment as a pillar advocacy of the network, we plan to have a bigger (event) like this may be open to the public. We will get more partners who have the same advocacy as ours. Para together we can advocate, promote more the use of all these sustainable products and our daily eco-friendly habits," she added.
