GMA-7 begins 2023 with another big milestone after receiving a grant to produce a mini-anthology from the National Council for Children's Television (NCCT) - the first one in its 72-year history.
The Kapuso Network, the true home of award-winning and child-friendly shows, has produced stellar programs, which are not only popular but also received numerous nominations and recognitions here and abroad like Amazing Earth, Daig Kayo Ng Lola Ko, iBilib, Pepito Manaloto: Tuloy Ang Kuwento to name a few.
And now, through the National Endowment Fund for Children's Television (NEFCTV) of the NCCT, GMA will produce the show titled 'Ok Ako' (Tales from the not so okays), an advocacy and narrative mini anthology, which will feature the struggles of the youth today and how it affects their mental health.
Aside from the Kapuso Network, the other grantees of the NEFCTV 2022 Grants program include the Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Child Sexual Abuse Inc. (CPTCSA), Tanghalang Pilipino Foundation Inc., and the LoveLife Project for Health and Environment Inc.
In the virtual Memorandum of Agreement Signing ceremony held last December 2022, Ms. Desideria Mance Atienza, the Executive Director III of NCCT shared the purpose of this initiative.
“This aims to give grants to qualified proponents in fulfillment of its mandate to promote high standards of indigenous and local program development in children's television in media.”
She continued, “Specifically, intended for Filipino children… Through the National Endowment Fund for Children's Television or the NEFCTV, the NCCT shall be able to promote the production and broadcast of high-quality television programs. It will contribute to the development of media content that gives rise to Filipino children's awareness and appreciation for their cultural identity, national heritage, and social issues.”
The NCCT was created pursuant to Republic Act No. 8370 or the "Children's Television Act of 1997" to promote and encourage the production and broadcasting of developmentally appropriate television programs for children.
