There is no road map in navigating the new way of doing things brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic. What the media and the public can do is discover the best way to deal with the new normal, together.
GMA News TV (GNTV) responds to the crisis by committing its nightly prime of primetime hours to a series of programs that will equip viewers with skills in surviving the pandemic. The programs, under the banner New Normal: The Survival Guide, will begin airing on July 20 at 8:30 PM from Monday to Friday.
PROF. SOLITA MONSOD leads the way every Monday with her program called NEWSMAKERS. The economics professor will do online interviews of experts who know the science, facts, and figures that matter. And to show young and old viewers alike how to use technology in surviving the pandemic, the 79-year old will feature the latest apps, trends, and gimmicks on the internet.
George Foster Peabody award-winning documentarian KARA DAVID will uplift spirits by featuring good Samaritans and good practices in her Tuesday program called BRIGHT SIDE. Kara's stories will focus on the positive stories amid the pandemic, the kind of stories that help the Filipino weather bad seasons. Her program will also show the best practices that can be duplicated by others in their communities.
During times of plenty it is important to save. During lean season it is imperative to save. Stretching meager resources during the pandemic is the focus of SUSAN ENRIQUEZ in her Wednesday program wittily called PERA PARAAN. The radio-TV anchor will talk about household finances, earning additional income, and succeeding in a work-from-home environment. In addition, she will also feature small and medium enterprises that successfully navigated the problems caused by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
They're always out working and playing and now they're grounded. TONIPET GABA and ROVILSON FERNANDEZ have to figure out domestic and other issues on their own, at home. Their struggles will be documented on their program aptly called HOME WORK, which airs every Thursday. The two need to figure out how to feed themselves, do laundry, and work out at home. The two will also provide advice to young gimikeros how to have fun at home.
Friday nights are for Biyahero DREW ARELLANO who ditches his backpack for grocery bags. Through his program, FAMILY TIME, Drew documents his own experience as a stay at home husband and parent to two toddler boys. Like most fathers during the pandemic, Drew heads food procurement, co-captains play time and nap time, and makes sure the wife is happy.
GNTV'S NEW NORMAL: THE SURVIVAL GUIDE is a must-watch for those needing a GPS in these new, unchartered times.
