GMA Pictures' '58th' is among eight Filipino films in contention for the Philippines' entry to the 99th Academy Awards.

GMA Pictures' 58th is one of the eight Filipino films in contention to represent the Philippines in the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

Directed by Carl Joseph Papa, 58th chronicles the deadly 2009 Maguindanao Massacre and one daughter's fight for truth and justice.

The animated biographical drama film follows Ma. Reynafe Castillo, played by Kapuso actress Glaiza De Castro, as she fights for her father, photojournalist Reynaldo "Bebot" Momay, played by the late Ricky Davao, to be recognized as the massacre's 58th victim after his remains were never found.

The other films in contention are Jade Castro's All the Things I Leave You (Patawid), Rafael Manuel's Filipiñana, Sigrid Andrea Bernardo's I'mPerfect, Raymond Red's Manila's Finest, Jerrold Tarog's Quezon, Lawrence Fajardo's Silenced Nights, and Jun Robles Lana's Sisa.
