In preparation for the festive holiday season this coming December, GMA Pictures has proudly announced its official entry to the prestigious 52nd Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) this year.
To kickstart the excitement, GMA Pictures rolled out a captivating teaser on all its social media channels last July 1.
The striking visual featured the profile of a young boy bathed in a radiant golden sunset, wearing an intricate headpiece with plaid accents. Paired with the intriguing caption, the poster immediately sparked curiosity among moviegoers.
Adding to the mystery, the post's cryptic caption strongly implies that the young lead possesses an extraordinary, supernatural gift.
“He sees a little more magic than the rest of us. Meet him soon,” the caption read.
On Tuesday, July 7, GMA Pictures' Amir was officially announced as one of the first four entries for the 52nd Metro Manila Film Festival.
The reveal took place during the MMFF Kickoff event held at the GH Mall in San Juan City, securing the film's spot in the prestigious holiday movie lineup.
During the event, young lead actor Argus Aspiras personally accepted the MMFF 2026 plaque of participation, alongside GMA Pictures Supervising Producer JC Rubio.
GMA Pictures followed up with an official announcement poster confirming the film's entry. The promotional material highlights Kapuso Drama King Dennis Trillo alongside child actor Argus as the main leads.
It also reveals that the film is helmed by renowned director Zig Dulay, the visionary behind past Kapuso MMFF entries Firefly and Green Bones, with a screenplay co-written by legendary screenwriters Ricky Lee and Anj Atienza, based on a story by Ian Simbulan.
In the caption, the Kapuso film production arm also gave a brief teaser regarding the film's plot.
“As darkness engulfs their village, young Amir (Argus Aspiras) and his father, Ali (Dennis Trillo), are thrust into a desperate fight for survival that will test their love, challenge their faith, and reveal the extraordinary strength found in family,” the caption read.
Joining Dennis and Argus are other prominent Kapuso stars, including Glaiza de Castro and Will Ashley.
Amir was launched alongside three other official entries: Viva Films' 2nd Miracle in Cell No. 7, Regal Films' Haunted Carnival, and Star Cinema's The Greatest Showdown.
