
Championing wholehearted service through news and information, media giant GMA Network bagged major awards in the television and radio categories of the 43rd Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) aired yesterday, December 26, via CNN Philippines.
Saksi was hailed as Best News Program, while documentary show Tunay na Buhay won Best News Magazine.
Besting an all-GMA nominated lineup, award-winning drama anthology Magpakailanman was awarded Best Drama Series / Program. Meanwhile, Balitanghali's comprehensive coverage of typhoon Ulysses (Vamco) in 2020 received the honor for Best Special Event Coverage.
Fiesta: Ang Makulay na Pananampalatayang Pilipino, a video documentary highlighting the deep-rooted intersection of Christianity and Filipino culture, landed the award for CMMA's Best TV Special.
GMA's radio subsidiaries also received recognition from the award-giving body, including Barangay LS 97.1's "Talk to Papa" as Best Counseling Program, Super Radyo DZBB's "W Dobol Team" as Best News Commentary, and "Usap Tayo: Super Kwentuhan with Mark and Susan" as Best Educational Program.
In addition, various GMA programs also earned special citations during the CMMAs, including Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho as Best Adult Education / Cultural Program, and iJuander as Best News Magazine.
GMA Public Affairs' Nasa Puso Ang Pag-asa, featuring the bayanihan stories of frontliners who brave numerous risks in the name of service, was cited for Best Digital Advertisement - Public Service, while GMA Regional TV's "Balitang Bisdak (500 Years of Christianity to the Philippines)" was commended for Best Special Event Coverage.
Completing the slew of CMMA recognitions earned by GMA Network this year, The Atom Araullo Specials, an in-depth exploration of the Philippines' pressing social issues, garnered praise for Best TV Special, while multi-awarded investigative journalism program Brigada was cited for Best Public Service Program.
Tracing back to 1978, the Catholic Mass Media Awards promotes a “values-filled mass media” in multiple communication fields like print, television, radio, film, advertising, and many more. The organization aims to highlight the vital role of mass media in the community, as well as to instill a strengthened responsibility among Filipino media practitioners.
