Direk Maryo sat down with iGMA to reveal his feelings, plans and hopes for Pablo S. Gomez’ Magdusa Ka.
Maryo J. delos Reyes, an award-winning director, is back on television to give life to another classic – Pablo S. Gomez’ Magdusa Ka. What are his expectations and how is he going to make this hit movie into a top-rating soap opera, Direk Maryo sat down with iGMA to reveal his feelings, plans and hopes for the show. Mauricio A veteran director with a number of accolades from various award-winning bodies, he has been tapped to take the helm of GMA’s newest soap opera, Magdusa Ka. With high expectations on the cast and the creative team, Direk Maryo leads the team to the top of the rating’s game. Women’s advocate The story of Magdusa Ka revolves around several female characters that show how strong they against the trials and obstacles of life. Direk Maryo aims to demonstrate this on screen with his controversial cast. “It’s about women empowerment, the emancipation of a woman and how she dealt with exploitative situations and how she rose above these situations,” explains Direk Maryo. He shares with iGMA how excited he is to be directing this project on television and looks forward to the challenges of extending the storyline to 16 weeks. “We will add a few characters that will enhance and give meatier sub-plot but basically the story and the characters will be the same. It is really about a woman’s failure and how she rises over her misfortunes,” adds the renowned director. Going back to drama Though this is not Direk Maryo’s first soap opera on television, he relishes the fact that he is in his elements on this project. “Nagsimula ako sa 'Di ba’t Ikaw noong araw and 'yung Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin tapos meron 'yung Mga Anghel na Walang langit which is a children’s melodrama tapos 'yung Calla Lily na may konting elemento ng mysticism. And then 'yung Impostorawhich is some sort of a satire, then eto naman melodrama. So I feel I am back to where I am good at,” shares the prolific director. He says that he expects good work from his cast and hopes that they will enjoy doing the project together. He expects them to be professional and to love what they are doing. “I hope we can give each other a new experience in terms of working ,” adds the drama guru. And to the viewers he gives this invitation: “Panoorin ninyo ang aming gagawin and we promise to give our best. I hope you enjoy and get entertained.
