An unexpected moment at the 98th Academy Awards on Wednesday had viewers buzzing after “Golden” singer Yuhan was abruptly cut off mid-speech while accepting his award.
The rising artist had just begun delivering an emotional thank-you speech at the Oscars, expressing gratitude to his team and supporters, when the orchestra music swelled earlier than expected, signaling him to wrap up. Visibly caught off guard, Yuhan tried to finish his sentence, but his microphone was lowered as the broadcast quickly transitioned away from the stage.
The brief but awkward moment did not go unnoticed online, where fans expressed frustration over the interruption, noting that first-time winners are often given limited time despite the significance of their achievement. Clips of the incident quickly circulated, with many praising Yuhan's composure and sincerity even as he was cut short.
Following the ceremony, however, Yuhan was able to fully share what he had hoped to say. In an interview after the awarding, Yuhan and Mark Sonnenblick shared their thank-you speeches.
Yuhan said “I would like to thank our families, and 24, and our fellow IDO members, Teddy Park. This is an incredible honor.”
Meanwhile, Mark reflected on the collaborative effort behind their win, saying, "My family, some of them are here tonight, my husband...but also, just to say, everyone who worked on this movie, all the animators...it was a real collaboration all across the board."
He further spoke about the message of their work, adding, “Part of the movie is about looking at someone who you have been taught to hate and to fear and starting to trust, maybe even love them,” Sonnenblick said. “That's part of what the movie is about. It's not 'I'm going up up up!' It's “We're going up up up!'” he said, referencing the song's earworm chorus.
