In GMA’s soon-to-air adventure and comedy serye
Lupin, Rhian plays Avril, the exact opposite of Leah, her debut character in
Mars Ravelo’s Captain Barbell.
“She’s like a real troublemaker, she’s a problem child, basta a loud kind of girl,” Rhian explains with a twinkle in her eye. But unlike her co-stars Richard Gutierrez (Lupin), Katrina Halili (Ashley), and Ehra Madrigal (Briggitte), Rhian’s character is not going to be a thief. “I think stealing is more of Richard, Katrina, and Ehra’s part because they were raised as thieves talaga.”
Lupin is loosely based on the classic French version titled
Arsine Lupin and not the Japanese version that Pinoys are more familiar with. According to direk Mike Tuviera, the version that they’re making is going to have a Pinoy flavor to suit the viewers’ taste.
In
Lupin teaser trailers being shown in the airwaves, a sizzling, scarlet-clad Rhian is saved at the last minute by a dashing and suave Richard before a bomb goes off. But even if Richard saves her in the scene, Rhian imparts that there’s more to it than what viewers might think.
“(In the teaser) parang I knew he would save me; it was like, ‘What took you so long?’ ‘Yung mukha (ko, ganoon) di ba? That’s pretty much (how) my character (is) like; nothing really worries me like it should, and I can take care of myself. The teaser is like someone captured me and Richard saves me from there.”
Rhian shares that she particularly likes this character because it’s “closer to home.” But not the troublemaker part, of course!
“I’m the whole ‘I can take care of myself kind,’ and Avril hates it when people do things for her. She’d rather just really do it herself, and I have that same (mentality). Like (Avril) appreciates it (when) the driver opens the door, it’s like, ‘Yeah, thank you, but I can open the door.’ She appreciates it, but she’d still rather do it herself. I share that with her.”
But Avril’s bratty attitude will change because of a life-altering experience. “I can’t really reveal, it yet, but something important happens in her life, and then it changes everything about her and then she is sort of forced to grow up and show her good side. And then you’ll see na parang in the inside she really has that good in her; that the rich, bratty thing was just a front.”

Rhian’s also quite psyched that she’ll be working with Richard again, especially since the two have developed quite a bond after
Mars Ravelo’s Captain Barbell. “Oh yeah, yeah, (I’m) definitely (happy) because if there’s really a leading man that I want to work with, its always Richard because he was like my very first one and then I’m really, really comfortable with him, and then parang we know each other well so we know how to (adjust to the) emotions of each other.”
Would you like to know something interesting about pretty Rhian? She revealed that Richard was her first onscreen
and real-life kiss! It was for a scene they did in
Mars Ravelo’s Captain Barbell, and although it was all in the name of acting, Rhian says that it was her “first kiss” nonetheless!
“It was Chard! And it was like, okay, angle it, so no one sees! It’s boring!” she shares with a laugh. But on second thought, she adds, “No, I mean, it’s fun, because we’re acting, and it’s my first onscreen and off-screen kiss, but I’ll update you when I finally have one!”
