Disney announces that 'Indiana Jones 5' will be released in July 2022!

Hollywood actor Harrison Ford will be reprising his iconic role as Dr. Henry Jones Jr., popularly known as Indiana Jones, in the fifth and last installment of the movie franchise set to be released in July 2022.

As announced by Disney during its Investor Day on Friday, December 11, the 78-year-old actor is confirmed to be back for his iconic role, with filmmaker James Mangold in the director's chair.

They said during the announcement, “Lucasfilm is in pre-production on the next installment of Indiana Jones.

“At the helm is James @Mang0ld, director of Ford vs. Ferrari, and Indy himself, Harrison Ford, will be back to continue his iconic character's journey. Adventure arrives in July 2022.”

While this is the first time Disney has officially confirmed the news, it can be recalled that Harrison already leaked that a new Indiana Jones movie is in the works during his appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show back in February.

In it, he revealed to the host and comedienne, “I can deny that it's not happening.”

To which Ellen replied, “You can deny that it's not happening, so it means that it is happening.”

Harrison then smiled before the audience finally caught on and erupted into applause.

“It's going to be fun. I am excited. They're great fun to make,” Harrison added.

Besides Harrison, LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy also confirmed that the Hollywood actor would be back for his role as Indy.

During the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards red carpet, she told BBC reporters, “Harrison Ford will be involved [in the movie]. It is not a reboot but a continuation. We're working away, getting the script where we want it to be, and then we'll be ready to go.”

The new film was originally set to start production during the summer of this year, but production was delayed due to the coronavirus.

Indiana Jones took the cinematic world by storm after its 1981 film Raiders Of The Lost Ark became a box office hit. It is considered as one of the best films in the action-adventure genre.

It is followed up by three more sequels, namely Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade, and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The franchise centers on the fictional character of Dr. Henry Walton “Indiana” Jones Jr., an archeologist and lecturer known for his many adventures searching for popular artifacts around the world.

He is characterized by his iconic accouterments: the bullwhip, fedora hat, satchel, and leather jacket. He is also known for his witty and sarcastic sense of humor, knowledge of ancient civilizations and languages, and fear of snakes.
