Joseph Ejercito Estrada served as the country's 13th president for two consecutive years before being ousted in 2001 in the wake of a massive anti-corruption protest. In 2007, he was convicted of plunder and was sentenced to reclusion perpetua or jail term of up to 40 years.
He was later pardoned by his successor, former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
