Heart Evangelista and Chiz Escudero

For the first time, Heart Evangelista and Senator Chiz Escudero open up about rough patches in their relationship.

In a candid interview on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda, Heart Evangelista and Senator Chiz Escudero opened up about the lessons they learned from overcoming difficulties in their marriage.

Just like any other couple, Heart and Chiz admitted that they have also faced challenges and rough patches in their relationship, but the good thing is that they never regret it--only lessons learned.

Talking about the lessons she learned, Heart said, “That if one is going through a really tough time the other one really has to be strong because I don't think we would be sitting here today if he wasn't strong.”

The actress and fashion icon also revealed that Chiz stood by her side even in her darkest days. She said, “I've never met anyone not even a friend, like everybody failed me during that time, but, he believed in my heart.

“It's because of his belief and what he knows about my heart, the Heart that he knows, he knew that I was gonna come back, and if he didn't it would've been done.”

For Chiz, it is challenging to weather the storms in their relationship, but God has been really helpful.

“Difficult, but God made it easier for me. Lesson learned there is be still know there is a God,” he said.

“Is love bigger than the problem?” TV host Boy Abunda asked Chiz.

“Yes and no?” Chiz answered.

“Yes, because basta may kahit konti[ng] [pagmamahal] doon sa isa, malaki 'yung isa, mapupunuan 'yon. No, kapag walang-wala na kahit na gaano kalaki 'yung isa wala na 'yun,” he explained.

“At least meron kahit may maliit na butong pagsisimulan para tumubo ulit kung nawala man, pero kung wala kahit na buto, wala na yun,” he continued.

Heart acknowledged Chiz's statement, saying, “I agree. Because for me at that time I felt like the situation is bigger than our [love].”

The actress then talked about what she went through throughout those painful periods in their relationship.

“I was very confused and it also didn't help that I was also with the wrong set of people. So I was basically out of character.

“That was for me… I wasn't a teenager to say na, 'I was young, I didn't know what I was doing, I don't know what is wrong or right. It's for me my darkest time because I knew what I was doing but I i just… I don't know why I'm here like I feel like I was possessed and taken somewhere else and I was full of anger,” Heart shared.

Moreover, Heart claimed that she was unbothered about anyone or anything during those moments.

“I didn't feel it so much because at that time galit nga ako sa lahat, so, the hell kung ano mang tingin nyo, wala akong pakialam. Kung gusto nyo akong pagtulungan, sige na, magiging star na ako sa Moulin Rouge, I will survive! Ganyan ang peg ko,” Heart recalled.

According to Chiz, he also refused to answer queries about his personal life at work.

“'Yung private life ko hindi naman kasama sa trabaho ko e, so, kahit sinong magtanong sa akin sa senado tungkol doon noong mga panahon na 'yun, I simply shrug it off kasi wala namang kinalaman. I never use that platform for my private life, so neither they can be used that platform for my private life,” said Chiz.

After nine years, Heart and Chiz recently renewed their vows at Balesin Island, the same place where they tied the knot in February 2015.
