Heart Evangelista shares the art of table setting

Start throwing dinners and entertaining your guests in style by following Heart Evangelista's tips.

Formal table settings are an art form.

It sets the tone for the evening and shows the efforts made by the host or hostess to create a perfect event for the guests.

The tradition surrounding it is grounded in history dating back to the Old Testament and even found in the writings of Homer.

Historically, taking the time to set a proper place at the dining table with the correct utensils was just as important as using the proper manners when eating.

Today, the care that is taken to make sure a dinner party is perfect honors every guest. And who better to teach us this than Kapuso sweetheart and socialite Heart Evangelista?

In her latest video entry, Heart shows her china closet that houses her favorite plates, cutlery, and placemats, and how she sets the table for every occasion.

Here, we list the items we learned from the 17-minute video:

1. Energize the day with bright and refreshing colors

Breakfast can be daunting for some people, but for Heart, it's a chance to spice up the day by simply adding colors to liven up the mood.

She does this by using colorful napkins to add a bit of oomph to boring white plates.

“Since I chose white plates, you wanna keep it very cute and simple but at the same time, give it a little boost and energy.

“We'll be using these colorful napkins to add a bit of color and to add a little bit of touch of elegance and flair.”

2. Invest in a good set of cutlery

A full set of cutlery is something you're likely to buy more than a handful of times, so it's important to choose a set you'll love.

Cutlery options can range from affordable to luxurious, handcrafted silverware that will likely be treasured by generations to come.

Aside from that, Heart says, the design will really depend on your budget and style, and as with anything that's used on a daily basis, it should feel beautiful, too.

“I think it's very wise for you to invest in really nice utensils. Again, this is a lifetime thing, so you really want to invest on something nice.

“If not, when you travel you can go to shops that have a lot of nice utensils --different kinds, actually. You can even get the ones that are very playful.”

3. Blue and White sets are a classic staple

Mixing and matching pieces are fun, but sticking to one color can make it easier for you to set up your table.

Choose your color and make it the motif in which the rest of the setup's look would revolve. Heart's favorites are her blue and white sets because the patterns don't exactly have to match.

“Why blue and whites? Because this would be the easiest because they don't really have to match.

“They look beautiful when you put them all together and you can get them anywhere!

“Plus, you can use them on any occasion.”

4. Keep it classy by going for coordinating patterns

A dinner can be extra chic with gorgeous dinnerware with coordinating patterns and it doesn't have to be super expensive.

Heart is a fan of the Hermes china, but that doesn't mean you can't cop the look by going for more affordable pieces.

“I invested on these Hermes plates which I love but I do not use these on a daily basis because they're quite expensive.

“So I've discovered these plates that give the same vibes as my Hermes plates. But what I love about it is that it did not copy the exact print on the Hermes.”

5. Table setting is easy with an organized storage room

Heart's china cabinet is neat and organized with all her plates and cutlery kept in shelves. To make it easier for you to find what you need, she advices grouping your dinnerware either by color or design.

“When I was building this house, I really wanted a room where I can store all my collection and see them properly because I love entertaining.
