J-mee Katanyag says viewers can relate to the characters of Julie Anne San Jose and David Licauco in the upcoming GTV series, 'Heartful Cafe.'
With only a few more weeks until the world premiere of the GTV series Heartful Cafe, head writer J-mee Katanyag sat down with GMANetwork.com to share how she came about the script and what viewers can expect from the series.
Relating to how the concept came about, J-mee says, it all boils down to concept creator RJ Nuevas.
“Pinaisip kasi sila ng concepts with the pandemic in mind,” she said.
“So, ang una n'yang naisip is kung one location lang at bakit hindi cafe? Isang cafe where you find love.
“And from there, naisip n'ya what if may owner na nagma-matchmake ng love pero s'ya mismo hindi [siya] makahanap [ng] love n'ya.”
From there, she, together with her writers Ken de Leon and Jimuel dela Cruz, began to write a story about love that is “familiar enough” but also provides an insight about all forms of relationships.
J-mee explained, “Ginusto namin na paglaruan 'yung mundo ng 'Heartful Cafe.'
“We wanted to offer love stories na something familiar enough but with the sprinkle of in the now and at the same time may insights about love, family, and friendship. From there, naglaro na kami ng devices and treatment.
She added, “We also want our audiences to delve in the psychology of Heart Fulgencio (played by Julie Anne San Jose), at pati 'yung conflict ng tunay n'yang nararamdaman versus kung paano siya nagre-react upon it. That's why we use a device of breaking the fourth wall.
“Parang with this, gusto namin na kasama -- literal -- ang audiences sa journey ni Heart sa pag-pursue ng dreams n'ya at sa paghahanap ng love n'ya.”
Speaking of the characters in the show, J-mee also shared how ecstatic she and her team was upon learning that Kapuso actors Julie Anne San Jose and David Licauco will portray the characters Heart Fulgencio and Ace Nobleza in the series.
“Nung nalaman namin na sina Julie Anne San Jose at David Licauco ang magiging cast sa Heartful Cafe, naging collaborative kaagad 'yung process,” she recalled.
“In-interview at kinilala namin sila, and their views on love and coffee.
“From there, we tried to incorporate their personalities sa character namin and at the same time, nagdagdag din kami ng characteristics na magtsa-challenge sa kanila bilang actors.
“So upon seeing the materials na na-shoot na, makikita n'yo yung chemistry and I'm sure ma-i-in love ang audience.”
