In any pageant, the national costume segment speaks the loudest since it shows how a candidate can represent her country. This is also why Binibining Pilipinas 2022 first runner-up Herlene Budol took to social media to ask for suggestions on what she can wear for her upcoming Miss Planet International 2022 pageant.

Herlene took to Facebook and Instagram and asked for ideas and suggestions on her national costume for the international pageant.

“Since malaki at malawak ang Community ng industria ng Pageantry at naging Solid Hiponatics, Baka meron kayong Suggestion for my NATIONAL COSTUME ilalaban ko sa International Stage,” she said.

During her Binibining Pilipinas stint, Herlene's national costume was inspired by the Higantes Festival in Angono Rizal, which is her hometown.

She then proceeded to ask everyone to post their sketches for national costume ideas in the comment section and informed them that her manager, Wilbert Tolentino, would be the one to choose from the submitted designs.

The beauty queen/comedienne is also quick to inform everyone that the designer of the chosen costume will receive an honorarium or payment. The honorarium, Herlene explains, is because her manager believes that Filipinos are great artists and will deserve it.

“Naniniwala sya na marami magagaling na Artist at iba mag icip at sobrang artistic ang mga Filipino,” she said.

Netizens are quick to answer her call though and provided sketches and ideas for Herlene. One of them suggested a kalabaw costume reminiscent of the Tikbalang one worn by Binibining Pilipinas candidate Graciella Lehmann. According to the netizen, it will represent the hard work of the Filipino people.

Another netizen commented that she should wear the traditional national costume of the Philippines instead as she represents the country, and suggested enhancing it further with designs and arts.

Another user, meanwhile, suggested for Herlene to wear a national costume inspired by the environment, while another one commented that she should wear a gown inspired by the sampaguita, the Philippines' national flower. They also further suggested wearing something Darna-inspired as she is a well-known Filipino comics superhero.

Other netizens also suggested getting ideas from fellow Kapuso Paolo Ballesteros who designed the Tikbalang costume of Graciella, saying that he has great ideas for such things.
