After opening a weightlifting academy in 2024, first Filipino Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo added another feather to her cap as she is now a teacher at the University of the Philippines Diliman.
According to an article posted on the national university's website, the athlete supervises two PE 2 sections in weightlifting in the second semester of academic year 2025-2026.
On Wednesday, January 21, Hidilyn held her first day of classes in a gymnasium, as seen on talent manager-multimedia producer Noel Ferrer's Instagram post.
The post highlighted both her excitement and nervousness about her new experience. “Kinakabahan ako Sir, pero masaya ako at nagagawa ko ito. It's giving me a better sense of purpose,” she said.
She also shared that teaching is her way to give back to the country that supported her weightlifting career. By sharing her knowledge with UP students and inspiring young people to pursue their sports dreams, she sees this as an opportunity to guide the next generation of athletes while imparting valuable life lessons.
Hidilyn took the necessary steps to become a certified lecturer by attending the Teaching Effectiveness Course at the UP Diliman School of Economics in preparation for her teaching role at the College of Human Kinetics.
