Kara David

With her newest triathlon win, Kara David qualifies for the 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship.

It's another milestone for GMA documentary show iWitness host Kara David as not only did she recently finish first in the 2023 IRONMAN triathlon, she also qualified for the 2023 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlon competition to be held in Finland.

Kara announced her win and her being qualified for the world race in a post on Instagram on Monday, June 12, with a caption that says “Race to survive. Yan ang pakiramdam ko kahapon. Survival mode.”

“Bumabagyo kahapon kaya survival nalang talaga ang nangyari. Salamat po Panginoon ginabayan Ninyo kami sa malalaking alon at malakas na hangin at ulan,” she said in her post.

She then gave thanks to her mommy for guiding her from heaven.

Kara competed in the 2023 IRONMAN triathlon in Subic Bay, Zambales wherein she swam 1.9 km, raced on a bike for 90 km, and ran for 21 km.

“Congratulations to all Ironman participants! We survived it!” she said in her post.

She then gave thanks to everyone who supported her including her husband, LM Cancio, and fellow Kapuso reporters Ivan Mayrina and Raffy Tima, and congratulated the latter for finishing the full IRONMAN triathlon.

Aside from IRONMAN, Kara also competed in several triathlon matches including the New Clark City Triathlon in 2022, and the Mt. Mayon triathlon in the same year.

In an interview on the Updated with Nelson Canlas podcast, Kara revealed that she started her triathlon journey as a swimmer for the team of actor Onemig Bondoc.

According to Kara, she wanted to get active in sports to help her combat her bipolar disorder and after going to the gym and playing badminton, she was advised to try swimming.

She added that after swimming for the team for a while, she realized that she could run, and then bike, which eventually led her to becoming a triathlete.

Several friends offered their congratulations for winning the race and getting into the world championships, including fellow reporters like Raffy, Nelson, Mariz Umali, and fellow triathlete and Kapuso actor and singer Kristoffer Martin, who finished fifth in the same race.
