Actress turned environmental activist Antoinette Taus took to Instagram to express her concern over the dangers of human wastes that the world is facing right now.

In a lengthy post, she wrote: “The #Coronavirus may have offered our planet a break from climate change causing activities, but a brand new pollution problem is emerging amidst the global pandemic due to the high demand and immediate disposal of single-use face masks."

Antoinette said that disposable masks are already washing up on the shores of Hong Kong and other parts of the world largely due to the lack of infrastructure to manage them properly.

“Improper treatment and disposal of healthcare waste pose serious hazards of secondary disease transmission due to exposures to infectious agents among waste pickers, waste workers, health workers, patients, and the community in general where waste is improperly disposed.”

For people who are looking for a way to help, especially during this difficult time, Antoinette shared ways to help curb the spread of infection brought by hazardous waste.

“Separate all your used and contaminated medical waste from your regular household trash. Make sure to LABEL your medical waste and, if possible, place them in YELLOW containers for proper disposal by community garbage collectors and waste management.

"Segregate and set aside your recyclables since most household items have been disinfected already. This can eventually be sold/exchanged for cash or goods.

"Try to purchase alcohol and other items in bulk / large sizes so that you can reuse and refill smaller individual bottles for home use or for donations.

"When donating relief goods, please avoid single-use items like plastic bags and sachets, and choose to use earth-friendly products like eco-bags. These can also be disinfected, reused repeatedly, or recycled.”

At the end of her post, Antoinette stressed how everyone should do their part in the fight against COVID-19 and for the planet.

“Together we rise against #COVID19, and together we unite in action #ForNature and our only home planet. #PlanetCORA”
