
Director, actor and Hollywood figure Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead Sunday afternoon in their Los Angeles home, authorities and multiple sources confirm, in what police are investigating as a suspected homicide, People reported on December 15.
First responders with the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived at the residence shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 14, after receiving a medical-aid call. Inside, they discovered the bodies of a man and a woman later identified as the 78-year-old filmmaker and his 68-year-old wife.
According to the People, the couple's son Nick is currently in custody and being questioned by police as a person of interest. Law enforcement has not yet officially confirmed the account pending further investigation.
Details released so far indicate the deaths are being treated as the result of a violent attack with stab wounds from a knife. Authorities have not yet disclosed an official cause of death, and the Los Angeles Police Department's Robbery-Homicide Division is leading the investigation.
The tragic discovery was reportedly made by the Reiners' daughter, Romy, who found her parents inside their home.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time,” Reiner's family said in a statement shared by New York Post.
Rob Reiner's impact on American entertainment spanned more than five decades. He first rose to fame as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking sitcom All in the Family in the 1970s, a role that made him a household name.

Reiner first became a father during his marriage to filmmaker and actress Penny Marshall. The two wed in 1971, and during their marriage, Reiner legally adopted Marshall's daughter, Tracy Reiner. Following their divorce, he later expanded his family with his second wife, Michele Singer, whom he married in 1989. Together, the couple welcomed three children: Jake, Nick, and Romy.
