The Voice Generations coach Chito Miranda opened up about his struggle as a parent in his Instagram post on Sunday, January 11.
Chito, the main vocalist of Parokya ni Edgar is married to former actress-turned-entrepreneur Neri Naig. The two tied the knot in 2014 and have been blessed with two boys, Miggy (age 9) and Manuel Alfonso Miranda or Cash (age 4). ().
In a lengthy Instagram post, the OPM icon admitted that parent guilt is real, since he feels torn about his responsibility to provide financially for his family and be present in the lives of his children.
According to clinical psychologist Sabrina Romanoff, parent guilt is when a parent feels torn between their responsibilities as a parent and something else that is competing for their attention, such as work or other personal interests.
“Kagabi, di ako makatulog. I was sad about something...na parang di ako mapakali. Last night, I had to leave home at around 10pm kasi may gig kami mamaya dito sa Bataan,” Chito shared on Instagram.
He continued, “Dumating kami dito sa hotel kanina around 3am tapos medyo nasenti ako (it always happens to me pag mag-isa ako sa malaking hotel room tapos wala pamilya ko...it feels empty kahit gaano pa kaganda yung room).
“Namiss ko family ko and felt guilty kasi malayo ako sa kanila. Feeling ko di ko sila naaalagaan,” he added.
To unburden himself, Chito reminded himself that he is doing the best he can as a dad and he has a ton of help from his wife Neri, who is an incredible mom.
“Tapos ni-remind ko sarili ko na I played basketball with Migs nung hapon, played hide n seek with him and his friends nung gabi. Tapos nasamahan ko naman sila ni Cash sa birthday party nung friend nila nung Friday after ko ko sila samahan sa football practice nila.
"So I guess nabibigyan ko naman sila ng sapat na oras pag wala akong gig. With that in mind, nakatulog na ko,” he shared.

“Pagkagising ko, Neri said na pinalaro nya daw si Migs and Cash sa garden with their friends nung morning at naglaro sila sa putik...which also made me happy kasi alam ko na kahit wala ako, Neri is there naman to take care of them and make sure na masaya silang naglalaro outdoors.
“Neri and I also agreed to spend less time on our phones lalo na pag kasama namin mga anak namin...para mas present kami,” Chito said.
