Daeron's storage room-turned-bedroom

Using the profits of his cookie business, Daeron Carlo Pabiloña, 22, was able to renovate their old storage room into a cozy bedroom and his home-based office. Check out the amazing transformation here:

To survive the many challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic, people started to venture into various small businesses. For Daeron Carlo Pabiloña, part of his game plan is to start a cookie business and maximize his family resources in baking supplies.

“Naisipan kong magtayo ng sariling business dahil wala akong trabaho noong magsimula ang pandemya. Since my family is running a bakery supplies/dealer business, I maximized my resources. Baking supplies are readily available and we have this oven na hindi ginagamit. So for me to purchase food/items that I want, I ventured into the food business,” he shared with GMANetwork.com.

To stand out from other local food and cookie businesses, Daeron came up with an interesting strategy.

“Before I started my cookie business, I had one question that helped my way out. 'Ang daming cookies business out there, how will I stand out?' So as part of my game plan, I wanted to make seasonal flavors of my cookies to make me different from other cookie shops. I also donated some of my sales to charity and support group,” he recalled.

“Pero the real reason behind why I chose to sell cookies is because I'm such a big fan of cookies. It's my comfort food, it makes me happy! Every time we go out for a grocery run, I always get myself a bag of cookies,” he added.

With PhP2,000 as starting capital, Daeron successfully created “Everydae Indulgence” and began selling different cookie flavors online. After months of hard work, he was able to save enough budget to transform their old storage room into his cozy bedroom and mini-office.

“It's been a year since I told my parents na I wanted to transfer to the smallest room in our house, mainly because of the windows! My old room has only one window which is faced inside the house. I just feel na sobrang laki ng old room ko for me. Of course, there's a lot of memories sa old room, college memories to be specific,” he explained.

Life goes on with Daeron. Even if his old room has a lot of treasured memories, he still decided to transfer to a small room that, for him, would give a feeling of comfort.

With the help of his father, an architecture friend, and one experienced mason, they were able to declutter the seven-sqm storage room.

“It took us one month to finish my room since it's a seven-sqm bedroom and one mason who is working six days a week. I have a friend who is an architect who helped me visualize my design and my papa who's been there since day one, sobrang hands-on with my room,” he shared.

After a month of upgrading the storage room - from planning the design, renovating to decorating the new bedroom, here is the result of his cookie business profits.

“I think gumastos ako around PhP90,000-1PhP00,000 for my room that came from my cookie business. Hindi ko inexpect na malaki yung aabutin kasi I was just recording all the expenses. I bought an AC, window blinds, electricity provision for the AC (which costs a lot), a new bed, new sofa. Everything is all new except for the raw materials,” the young entrepreneur shared.

Most of his purchases were from budget-friendly platforms and online stores. Checkout his “budol” tips here:

Daeron also has an interesting message to his fellow young entrepreneurs: “It takes a lot of courage to start and venture out a business. It's scary at first, but if you try to start and plan out your business with the right mindset, it will be smooth and all worth it. Having a goal is the key to being motivated and focused on what you want to achieve.”
