Celebrity vlogger Alex Gonzaga got the chance to interview Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and learned more about his life as a public servant and being the son of showbiz legends Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes.
Celebrity vlogger and comedienne Alex Gonzaga got the chance to interview Vico Sotto, the good-looking millennial mayor of Pasig City and the son of Eat Bulaga pioneer Vic Sotto and highly-respected TV-movie actress Coney Reyes.
In her vlog, Alex asked Mayor Vico what being the son of two showbiz icons in the Philippines is like.
Vico said, “Very supportive naman sila sa akin. Medyo natakot sila para sa akin.
“Pero kahit na ganun 'yung feeling nila, talagang very supportive sila, suwerte ako 'yung parents ko very down to earth din 'pag kasama mo sila.”
Being a public servant is no easy task. Vico was a first-time councilor when he ran for the highest position in Pasig City in 2019. In fact, he dislodged the Eusebio family from the seat of power by beating reelectionist Bobby Eusebio then.
The political clan has been in power in the city since 1992--at that time Vico was around two years-old.
Mayor Vico admitted that he sometimes answers back at his bashers, but he stressed that as a public servant you must be open to any feedback whether negative or positive.
“Paminsan… Pero siyempre dapat hindi ka masyado maapektuhan.
“Pero sa isang banda naniniwala ako na as a public servant tinitingnan mo din 'yung feedback.”
Public service
Vico who graduated with a degree in Political Science at the Ateneo de Manila University directly told Alex Gonzaga that he didn't see himself joining his father Vic Sotto in Eat Bulaga, because ever since he was a kid, he really wanted to work in the government and make a difference.
Why did he decide to seek public office?
Vico shared, “Ito 'yung nakita kong opportunity na magpakilala ng mga pagbabago sa lungsod natin. Lumipat si Mama [Coney Reyes] nong 1987.”
