Anthony Rosaldo

Anthony Rosaldo will be releasing a song that he himself wrote under the GMA Playlist label.

As a singer, no one can question that Anthony Rosaldo is one of the talented artists to emerge from The Clash.

To date, Anthony has several singles under his belt including “Nandiyan Ka Na,” “Larawan Mo,” “Maghintay Ka Lamang,” and “Puwedeng Tayo.”

But Anthony is raring to expand his artistic range and prove that he is also capable of writing his own songs.

“I started writing [songs] ito lang ding lockdown,” Anthony revealed during his guesting on GMA Playlist on Wednesday (August 18).

“Napaka-interesting din ng lockdown, e, no? Nakita natin how bad, how terrible, and how compromised ang ating naging lifestyle, ang ating buhay, our careers, because of the pandemic.”

The lull gave Anthony enough time to mull over his personal life and what more he can offer as an artist to complement his young singing career.

“Siguro kasi ang dami rin nating time mag-isip. Our head won't stop thinking kasi we're worried and most of us reminisce about the good times.”

All these became a source of motivation and inspiration for Anthony to try his hand at songwriting to express his thoughts and emotions.

Anthony excitedly shared that he will soon be releasing a song that he had written and produced by GMA Music's new sub-label, GMA Playlist.

As for the process, Anthony said that the song's melody came to him first before the words, something that fascinates him even to this day.

“May naisip akong tono while I was driving from my lock-in taping sa Tagaytay going back to Manila,” he looked back.

“Merong paulit-ulit na melody sa isip ko. Sabi ko, 'Baka ito na 'yong sing na 'yong sign.'

“Kasi for artists, hindi kaagad-agad nasi-squeezed out 'yong mga kagaya niyang ideas. Minsan kailangan mo maging inspired talaga or kung pilitin mo, hindi ganun kaganda.

“Itong sa akin, pumasok lang talaga sa isip ko 'yong melody.”

Anthony singled out the '90s and 2000s as the eras that he looks up to when it comes to songwriting, citing the quantity and quality of Filipino music that came out during those periods.

“For me, 'yong eras na 'yon yung pinaka-successful pagdating sa pagbibigay ng OPM hits, tsaka pagbibigay ng LSS songs,” explained Anthony.

“Kung natatandaan n'yo 'yong mga banda na Freestyle, South Border, 'yong mga Rivermaya, Eraserheads. 'Di ba ang galing nila? Sobrang namamayagpag ang OPM noon.”

Anthony, likewise, thanked GMA Playlist for making his dream to become a songwriter possible.

“I'm so excited kasi pinagtulungan namin 'yan ng [GMA] Playlist team. Napaka-helpful at talagang they care about your passion, your input and your talent,” said Anthony.
