If you want the year 2020 to be the year that you keep your goals, you need a strategy to hold yourself accountable and a plan on how to reach it.

We've researched high and low for the best tips for sticking to your New Year's goals. Read on:

1. Write your goals in paper

In a study made by the Dominican University in California, scientists have proven that the process of writing down - by hand - your goals will make you more likely to achieve them.

Researchers have found out that writing your goals forces you to get clear on what it is you want to accomplish. The process of putting it on paper forces you to strategize, ask questions and brainstorm your plan of attack.

2. Create a vision board

Visualization is one of the most powerful mind exercises you can do in order to achieve your goals. According to the best selling book The Secret, “The law of attraction is forming your entire life experiencing and it is doing that through your thoughts.”

So try creating a sacred space that displays what you want and how you want to feel. Don't forget to place it in a space where you see it often so you'll end up doing short visualization exercises throughout the day.

3. Make your goals S.M.A.R.T.

Remember S.M.A.R.T.? If not, S.M.A.R.T. stands for Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound. When making goals, every bullet point should be answerable to help you fine-tune your strategy, ensuring that it's actually attainable.

Go a step further by making it incremental. By achieving smaller milestones, you're sure to spur regular action and measure your progress.

4. Measure and share your progress

Translate your New Year's goals into specific behaviors and action steps and write it down as checklists. Then, measure your progress either by putting a checkmark or marking an item on the list.

At the end of the week, review your progress and share them with your friends.

5. Make it fun

Goals are specific and time-bound, yet goals are a joy to achieve when you are playful at attaining them. Reward yourself with a prize when you accomplish something significant. So review your goals often and enjoy the journey!

Now you are prepared to make a change in 2020. Follow these tips and give it your best shot. If you miss your goal remember that you didn't fail. You're your own experiment so feel free to start fresh.

Good luck!
