Declutter your way to happiness with these four simple hacks by Jennylyn Mercado.

One silver lining that the pandemic may have brought would probably be having more time to organize our homes. Because honestly speaking, it's not that easy, especially when you have a big house.

Fortunately, Jennylyn Mercado chose this topic to discuss on the seventh episode of Descendants of the Sun's online show titled 'DOTS How You Do It,' as she shared the home organizing tips she learned from New York and Toronto-trained professional organizer Kat Ong.

If you're ready to unleash your inner Marie Kondo, here are Jennylyn's four simple rules to live by.

1. Determine the space you often visit

If you have a big house and can't decide which space to organize first, then think of the one that you often visit.

Araw-araw kang nagsha-shower. Araw-araw kang nagpapalit ng damit, so malamang do'n ka laging nagpupunta," Jennylyn said.

2. Concentrate on one element at a time

Once you've decided which space to organize, make sure to concentrate on one element at a time.

The Ultimate Star shared, "Mag-concentrate muna tayo sa one cabinet o one drawer at a time para 'di tayo na-o-overwhelm. Kunwari meron kang tatlong cabinet sa banyo, mag-start ka sa left to right or right to left, tapos pagbukas mo ng cabinet, do'n muna sa taas pababa, so isa-isa.

3. Dispose the things that no longer serve your life

The vital step of home decluttering is to know the things that are beneficial and useful for you and the things that no longer serve your life for at least a year. As what Jennylyn said, "be ruthless.

"Ang clutter kasi is postponed decision and action kaya kung iniipon mo 'to at natatambak, kailangan mo nang mag-decide kung kailangan mo pa ba 'to o hindi na. So ask yourself. Do you love it? Do you use them?"

If you feel regret throwing it away, then give it to someone you think needs it.

4. Repurpose items

If you have boxes at home that you do not use anymore, why not utilize them as containers? Reusing unneeded stuff could minimize your trash and, most importantly, is economical.

On the other hand, if you feel the need to buy containers, make sure that they will fit the space where you will be putting such.

Siguraduhin 'yung sukat na kakasya do'n sa inyong shelves or closet," she reminded.

The possibilities are endless when it comes to organizing space. But if you are having a hard time where to begin, Jennylyn has a tip for you: just simply remember these four letters S-E-A-S. It stands for S-ort things by category, E-dit your things, A-ssign proper place for proper containers, and S-tay organized.
