A popular hairstyle among South Korean men is the middle part or the curtain style hair.
Models, idols, and actors alike are seen sporting this effortlessly stylish hair which frames and pulls focus towards the face.
Are face-framing highlights the next biggest trend in hair colors?
YouTube content creator and model Yan of PandaAteYan recently released a tutorial online on how he achieves the middle part hairstyle.
Step one: The Haircut
Arguably the most important step, asking your barber for the right kind of haircut will allow you to style your hair into a middle part.
Yan asks his hairdresser for a "normal slope" which has his hair on the side of his head shaved upto his temples. Meanwhile, Yan will just have the remaining hair above his temples cut short to add volume to the bangs as it overlaps with the side of his head.
Yan requests for a "Number 3" on his slope but suggests others could go higher if they prefer that look just as long as no skin is peeking through.
As for the top part of his hair, Yan suggests having the length to sit between the eyebrow and the eye. He then asks his hairdresser to give him an overlap cut which allows his hair to flow onto the side of his head.
Step two: The Habits
Once you have the cut just right, then comes training your hair to part in the middle.
Yan suggests finding your hair's natural part which can be achieved by gently tousling through your hair. The strands will just fall into place revealing your natural part.
After figuring out the natural parting space, Yan then trains his hair to go in the direction he wants. Whenever he is washing his hair, Yan runs his fingers through his hair in a way that reinforces his natural part. It has also become a habit for him to comb his hair this way.
Doing these motions regularly will allow your hair to stay parted in the middle even without the help of products.
Step three: The Styling
Lastly, after training his hair to part in the middle, Yan walked us through on how he styles his hair with products.
On wet or damp hair, Yan uses a hair dryer to blow his hair to follow the direction of his parting while simultaneously combing with his fingers.
Once it's dry, Yan then gets a dab of styling clay, rubs all over his palms, and applies it all over his locks while maintaining his desired shape.
For the finishing touch, Yan grabs his bangs, using one hand for each side of the part, pulls it upwards then twists downwards. This step gives that window-shape to the hair.
